THE RULE
How do you spot a multiple of 3?
A whole number is a multiple of 3 when dividing it by 3 leaves no remainder. You can also add its digits: if that sum is divisible by 3, the original number is too.
For example, 42 is a multiple because 4 + 2 = 6. The number 43 is not because 4 + 3 = 7.
