ABOUT THE TASK

What is the Stroop effect?

The Stroop effect describes the extra interference that can occur when a word names one color but is printed in another. Reading the familiar word can compete with the instruction to report its ink.

This recreational browser version mixes matching and mismatching color words. It records speed and accuracy, but it is not a clinical or diagnostic assessment.

Balance speed with accuracy

Accuracy is correct choices divided by all 20 trials. Average and best reaction times use correct answers only, measured from the word appearing to your response.

Device latency, input method, attention, and practice can affect browser results. Compare repeated sessions on the same device instead of treating one score as a fixed ability.

QUESTIONS

Stroop test FAQ

What should I answer: the word or the ink?

Always answer the ink color. If the word RED is printed in blue, choose BLUE. The written word is a distraction.

How is the standard score calculated?

The standard test always ends after 20 responses. It reports the percentage correct plus average and best reaction times from correct responses.

How does endless mode work?

Endless mode gives you one life. Each correct answer starts another trial with a shorter deadline. A wrong choice or timeout ends the run.

Does the test work on mobile?

Yes. Tap the four large, labeled buttons. Keyboard players can use R for red, B for blue, G for green, and Y for gold.

Is this an attention or medical test?

No. This is a short recreational game and cannot diagnose attention, neurological, or other health conditions.
