READY?

PREPARE TO HOLD

Start the test, then press and keep holding the large button.

TIMING BAR

Keyboard: hold Space or Enter, then release it. Mouse or touch: hold the large button, then lift your finger or mouse button.

HOW TO PLAY

Test your release reaction

  1. 01

Start an attempt, then press and hold Space, Enter, or the large on-screen button.

  2. 02

Keep holding through the hidden random delay. Releasing before the signal is a false start.

  3. 03

When RELEASE appears, let go before the timing bar empties. Standard mode scores five attempts.

SCORING

Speed with restraint

Reaction time is measured from the moment RELEASE appears to the moment your key, mouse button, or finger lifts. Lower times are faster.

In Standard mode, false starts and timeouts count toward the five attempts and reduce accuracy. Your average uses clean releases only. Endless mode scores your clean-release streak.

ENDLESS CHALLENGE

Hold your nerve as time disappears

Every clean release advances the streak. The visible response window begins at 1.5 seconds and gradually drops to 0.4 seconds.

The random pre-signal wait never shows a countdown. One early release or timeout ends the run immediately.

QUESTIONS

Hold release reaction test FAQ

What does this reaction test measure?

It measures release reaction time: how quickly you stop an action after a visual signal. It also challenges response inhibition because you must keep holding before that signal.

Why is there no timing bar while I wait?

The wait is deliberately unpredictable. Hiding its timing prevents you from anticipating the signal. The bar appears only after RELEASE to show the response window.

Do false starts count in Standard mode?

Yes. Standard mode always ends after five attempts. An early release or timeout counts as an attempt and lowers accuracy, while the average uses valid release times only.

Can I play on a phone or tablet?

Yes. Press and hold the large button with one finger, then lift that finger when RELEASE appears. Keep the finger on the button during the wait.

Why was my run cancelled when I changed tabs?

Losing focus can hide the signal or swallow a release event. The test cancels the run instead of recording an unfair or stuck result.
